Summary
M.A.D.Editions teams up with AHCI co-founder Vincent Calabrese on the M.A.D.3.Powered by a reworked La Joux‑Perret G111 calibre, the watch is redesigned for reliability and fluid hour transitions.Released in raspberry pink (Tribe/Friends) and blue (raffle) editions.
MB&F's accessible imprint, M.A.D.Editions, has unveiled its third major milestone: the M.A.D.3 Vincent Calabrese. Conceived through a friendship between MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser and 82-year-old independent horological maverick Vincent Calabrese - co-founder of the AHCI and creator of Corum's Golden Bridge - the project functions like a publishing house bringing a legendary creator's voice into a new era.
Instead of a typical vintage reissue, the M.A.D.3 reinterprets Calabrese’s signature "Baladin" complication, replacing the abrupt jump of traditional jumping hours with a fluid, slow-wandering hour indicator that moves steadily across the dial while trailing minutes advance alongside it. Translating Calabrese’s highly artisanal display into a reliable, larger-scale production watch required MB&F's technical team to re-engineer the wandering hours module from the ground up.
The M.A.D.3 is powered by a specially optimized La Joux‑Perret G111 calibre, reworked to handle the energy demands of the wandering hours module. The complication preserves Calabrese’s hallmark fluid transition of time, while MB&F’s technical team redesigned the system for reliability and larger production volumes. The 40mm stainless steel case, designed by Eric Giroud, features floating lugs, domed sapphire crystals, and layered architecture, balancing elegance with mechanical playfulness.
Housed in a 316L stainless steel case designed by Eric Giroud - measuring 40mm in diameter, 12.7mm thick - the watch displays floating lugs, double-domed sapphire crystals, a bombé sapphire minute ring and integrated Super-LumiNova. On the reverse side, the openworked winding rotor exposes a discreetly engraved quote personal to Calabrese: "Il est assez aisé de plaire aux autres, bien plus ardu d'être fier de soi" -- which translates to "It is fairly easy to please others, far more difficult to be proud of oneself" in English.
Staying true to Calabrese and MB&F’s shared ethos of keeping inventive watchmaking accessible, the M.A.D.3 debuts at 2,900 CHF (approx. $3,600 USD.) The timepiece is offered in two distinct colorways: a vibrant "sunny raspberry" pink edition reserved exclusively for MB&F "Tribe" members and "Friends" suppliers, and an elegant blue edition available to the public through the brand’s signature raffle system open through September 7, 2026.
