The new footage moves through the beats that made the first book a phenomenon. Harry, Ron and Hermione make their way to Hogwarts and land together in Gryffindor after the Sorting Ceremony, then settle into life at the school, crossing paths with staff including Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape and Hagrid while working through classes like herbology and potions. The teaser also nods to the season's bigger swings: a first brush with Quidditch, the mystery surrounding the Philosopher's Stone, the confrontation with a troll loose inside the castle, a tense round of wizard's chess and early glimpses of both the Invisibility Cloak and the Mirror of Erised.

The stakes behind the project run well past a single season. HBO is adapting all seven of Rowling's novels across seven planned seasons, a scope that dwarfs the original film cycle that ran from 2001 to 2011 and turned Daniel Radcliffe into a household name. Dominic McLaughlin steps into the title role opposite Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, a trio of relative newcomers anchoring the ensemble.
